It was my first trip to Japan last year, Japan is just so perfect for me I gotta say. Everything is so convenient and superb I don't have to worry about a single thing. But knowing a lil bit of their language will be your huge advantage as while you are waiting to be served at the restaurant, they call out your number in Japanese language. Remember to get your map and touch and go card once you arrive! :)
